Abstract
We evaluated the possibility of immediate loading of orthodontic miniscrew. Two miniscrews (Dual-Top JB screw, Jaeil corp., Seoul, Korea) were inserted about 18 mm apart in one tibia and immediate load (100 gm) was applied. The size of miniscrews were 1.6 mm in diameter, 8.0 mm in length. Twenty New Zealand white mature male rabbits were used and classified into four groups. A total of 80 miniscrews were inserted. Removal torque values measured in miniscrews which were removed immediately after insertion were used as control. After 1 week, 6 weeks and 10 weeks, removal torque values of miniscrews were measured and rabbits were sacrificed. Surface textures of a part of 1 week, 6 week group miniscrews were observed with Scanning electron microscopy (JSM5410LV, Jeol corp., Tokyo, Japan). The average removal torque values were 5.375¡¾2.21 Ncm for control group, 2.285¡¾1.37 Ncm for 1 week group, 3.580¡¾2.19 Ncm for 6 week group, 3.415¡¾1.22 Ncm for 10 week group. The torque measurements yielded statistically significant differences among the control group, 1 week group, and 6 week group. Scanning electron microscopic views of 1 week and 6 week groups, demonstrated cell attachments on the surface of miniscrews, while cell attachments were disappeared after washing procedure. These findings demonstrate that removal torque value loss of early period can be recovered and miniscrews can resist the continous load. Immediately loaded orthodontic miniscrews have potential as a anchorage for orthodontic treatment.
